I have a question about naming traditions used in Fehmarn. I find the use of traditional surnames in my husband's Fehmarn ancestry, except there is one exception where the ancestor used a variation on the patronym system:
Matthias Andresen, born 20 Jun 1751 in Bannesdorf, Fehmarn; son of Peter Andreas, born 22 Dec 1715 in Bannesdorf, Fehmarn; son of Peter Andreas, born Abt. 1678.
Would anyone have any ideas why Matthias took the last name Andresen instead of Andreas?
