Epping in Bocholt. Status Animarum (#1)

Dear Ceal and list members,
here is what I have for the Epping family in Bocholt. My computer is needed for term papers, so I'll have to add to this during the next days.
The data are taken from "Status animarum für Stadt und Kirchspiel Bocholt", "aufgezeichnet von
Johann Bernard Scotus Breving in den Jahren 1749 bis 1750", Originaltext, herausgegeben, übersetzt und durch genealogische Daten ergänzt von Heinrich Weber"
The "Status Animarum" was a census that had been "requested" by the Bishop of Münster in 1749. All inhabitants had to be counted, and in the parish of Bocholt, the young pastor Johann Bernard Scotus Breving undertook the task.with great skill. He seems to have been quite a scholar, judged from the entries and also from the way the church registers are done.
What you find in the Status Animarum, starts with the names of the married couple (= conjuges),
their first and last names, often the occupation of the husband. Wives are listed with their maiden name.Next listed are the children (= proles), starting with the boys, after that the girls, then the helping hands and servants on the farm or in the household.Parents or in-laws who live in the household are also mentioned. Ages are in brackets.
To follow, the Eppings in the different "Bauerschaften" that later grew together to form the city of Bocholt:

M (= Mussum) 71: Bernardus E p p i n g 52, Catharinana Nyenhaus 28 conj. (= conjuges, married couple), 2 prol.: (= children): Joannes Theodorus 4, Anna Gertrudis 2, anc. (= ancillla= female servant/farm worker) Aleyda 18.

O (= Osterklucht) 83: "Engelbertus E p p i n g, gossipiarius min.cond. 40, Sophia Lagemans 45 conj., proles Engelberti: Winandus 10, Catharina 8, Maria 4, freater Engelberti Henricus 48, mater Engelberti Gertrud Halders vid. Epping 74"
The married couple Engelbert Epping, silk weaver (Note: It seems to explain that he was not/yet trained to do very complicated work. I am not familar with the system, but the weavers seem to be divided into categories, depending on their skill and training. He is called "simple"/ "of a minor condition") and Sophia Lagemanns 45; Engelbert's children: Winand 10, Katharina 8, Maria 4; Engelbert's brother Heinrich, 48; Engelbert's mother Gertrud Halders, widow Epping, 74)."

Johann Engelbert Epping is a son of Winold Epping and Gertrud Halders, baptised on February 17, 1710. He married Sophia Lagemans on May 12, 1737. Sophia died on January 10, 1755. Johann Engelbert died on May 4, 1799. Children: Winand, baptised on January 12, 1738, married Catharina Lamers on January 7, 1782. Cathraina, baptised on January 25, 1740, married Petrus Piepers on November 26, 1766. Maria Getrudis, baptised on March 25, 1743, married Bernard Joseph Lammers on July 2, 1778.

More soon,
Kind regards,
Petra
