Good evening,
I'm looking for my first known (military) ancestor Engelbertus Dirks/Dircks/Dirckx, probably born in Germany (NordRhein-Westphalen or Ost-Friesland?).
What I know about him is the following:
In 1736 Engelbert was a widower and a corporal under captain Barbin de Telliers in the regiment of Jean le Maurinaux de Marvillars (which is here Inf.Rgt. 701c ), from 1734-1737 in garrison in Maastricht. Maastricht is near the German border, often it was the first garrison town in the Netherlands for German and Swiss young men who wanted to take part in the many battles in the Netherlands and became hired soldiers.
Engelbert(us) married in Maastricht (the Netherlands) in 1736 with Maria Catharina Heus(s)chen / Huijsens, born in Grönsveld, near Maastricht.
Before 1734 Engelbert's regiment was from 1727-1728 in Deventer (NL, also near the German border), from 1728-1731 in Emden, Ost-Friesland, and from 1731-1734 in Nijmegen (also near the German border). I don't know where exactly he joined this regiment, he could be Dutch, Belgian or German.
In 1747 I've found Engelbert in Bergen op Zoom (NL), where a son (Jacobus) is born just before the siege of that city, and in 1768 I've found him as a retired sergeant in Loon op Zand (NL) where he lost his wife and remarried right after. I live there and found my whole family, but after the death of this 3rd wife in 1789 Engel / Engelbert / Engelbertus dissapears (to his birth ground?) without leaving a sign.
Has anyone a Engelbert(us) Dirks/Dircks/Dirckx in that early 18th century in his/her files? Who can help me?
I'm already very gratefull!
Rian Dirksen
