of: Engel Maria Clara LANGE, born 24 feb 1826.
She emigrated to the United States about 1850 and
lived in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, USA where she
married 17 Mar 1851 to Friedrich LUCKE(R).

Hello Renee Harris,

as others already explained LANGE is a much too common name, to find the right place without an already documented hint in your papers. It might be perhaps different with the other name of Friedrich LUCKE(R)and here also only if the special writing LÜCKER is the right one. I assume the umlaut "Ü" has been changed to simple "U" because wie have as the normal given cases only the family name LÜCKE and LÜCKER with the umlaut. For the few LUCKE you might look under www.telefonbuch.de . Let me go on. There are to count about 10 LÜCKE on 1 LÜCKER, but as you have mentioned an "R" as once given, let us assume furthermore the former given writing of the name in Germany was LÜCKER, what may we follow by that ? We still have about 500 entries of LÜCKER with the umlaut and as far as I see none without. Looking through where these 500 live today, we can find that about 80 % live in North-Rhine-Westfalia and another estimated 10% to 15% again in other countries but Lower-Saxony. The LÜCKER part of whole population in Former Kingdom of Hannover is only between 5 and 10% of the whole population of LÜCKER in Germany. In the next step one might look, where these resting about 7,5% are residing. The result is: they can be found in the greater parts in the region nearby the border to North-Rhine-Westfalia with 48607 Ochtrup (14), 49377 Vechta (8) and 49082 Osnabrück (5) as smaller centres of spread. But also inside the town of Hannover are (7) entries LÜCKER in the directory. If you put the LÜCKER number into relation to the specific number of population of a town, 48607 Ochtrup seems to be the relatively biggest centre of a LÜCKER-population in Lower-Saxony.

So maybe this is a start for your further research and your couple knew each other before emmigration. Consider at all, there are a lot of assumptions - also they are founded on some reasons - to come to this place hint Ochtrup and is only the best one based on the given data and still not the highest probababilty. But before one goes on a 1:1000 chance one should be sure to have checked the possibilities for higher chancesof maybe 20 to 30%. Where a lot of so named people live today, the chance is greater that in former times some did too and the immigration percentages of bearers of the name were corresponding.

Greetings and good luck Hans Peter Albers, Bienenbüttel
