What you are telling us is that he was married in New Orleans. OK. check the
census of New Orleans, plus the marriage, where, church, civil, or how about
port of entry books for that period plus or minus a few years before his
marriage. Check shipping manifest. Lots of Friesians came thru New Orleans
up the Mississippi to Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin and Minn. Your starting
point would be Port of Entry. Any record you can find

Thanks. The problem is that I've checked all of these (that I'm aware of.) No sign of a place of birth .. other than Germany or Mecklenburg. (He had left New Orleans before 1850. I don't remember if I checked the 1840 census ... I'll look through my records again.)
