Thank you for this post. I will read it at leisure later. I have Dutch
ancestors who came to Ost Preussen.
In my searches I have a *Heindricks Thim* who was born in Danzig. He served
with the Dutch East India Company. He was a well-known map maker and
produced a wonderful map of the Sunda Strait. It can be found in the
Blae-Van der hem Atlas.
My grandfather *Rudolf Ernst Thiem*, born 05/04/1887 in Potsdam, is a
descendant. His Father W*ilhelm Ernst Albert Thiem* was a Tischlermeister
who lived in Potsdam. His mother was *Anna Maria HIRNER*.
Unfortunately I can find no records that link Rudolf Ernst to Jan Hendrik
Thim ( the Dutch spelling). I know that Jan had several children born in
Amsterdam, but no records seem to be available as he neglected to record the
births of his children.
A signet ring bearing the crest of the Polish aristocracy has been handed
down from Jan through our family.
He died when his ship, the KONING WILLAM sank on the Flemish coast on 22 or
23 July 1696. No one seems to know whether his children stayed in Holland or
moved back to Danzig. If anyone can find any records to help me establish
these links I would be most grateful.
