My name is Nancy Peeples and I am researching my father's family. The last
name is Doscher. Is this the proper place to be accessing for this type of
information? I can place Diederich Martin Doscher in South Carolina by 1870
and before that he states that his place of birth was Sellstedt (Seestedt)
Lehe Hanover, Germany in July of 1837. His wife was Fredericka
Margarite(sp) Catherina Bierfisher born in February 1844 in Hatton
Oldenburg, Germany. I can trace much of there life's in this country
through St. Matthews Lutheran Church records and city directories but do not
have any idea how to trace them back to Germany. Any help of suggestions
are appreciated even if it is to say that this is the wrong forum for this

Hi Nancy,

The Family History Center of the Mormon Church has photographed a lot of
church books.
They also have microfilms of the Hanover, Lehe church records from 1715 -
1852. The microfilms have to be viewed at their places. Inquire if you
have such a church in your neighborhood.
It costs only a few $ for a 3 week rental.
I was unable to find F.M. Bierfischer's birthplace of Hattan, Oldenburg.
The FHA might be able to help.
To go through the microfilm, you need lots of time and a magnifying glass.
