Can anyone tell me if Dom (Catheral) is Catholic or Evangelical (Protestant). I have a ggrandmother who was baptized in Staat Berlin, Dom, Brandenburg Prussia.
I have been working under the assumption that she was Protestant since one of her sons was baptized in the First German Protestant Church in New Orleans. Thanks,
Max
Dear Max,
I think my Von Dorn's were Protestant because my gggrandfather (his mother was Von Dorn from Hanover) who was a 32nd degree Mason (no Catholics would have joined that then) converted to Catholosism, for his Irish Catholic wife, after his 8th child was born.
Hello Max,
"Dom" can be Catholic as well as Protestant. Doms were the churches of (Arch-)Bishops in Catholic times. After the reformation, depending on the religion that region (or city) adopted, those in Protestant areas were converted to the new religion. This also is valid for Berlin, which is predominantly Protestant.
