Districts (Amt) in Hanover area from 1837 question

I need some information on the Amt. Wölpe and Amt. Neustadt.I am pretty sure I finally found my gg grandfather listed on the ship Brig Bremen Packet, which sailed from Bremen to NY in 1837.

He was from the area of what is now called Neustadt am Ruebenberge.(which has the towns of Lutter, Mandelsloh, etc.)

Is Amt. Wölpe still in exsistence? And how close are the 2 districts mentioned above to each other? Thanks,Joy<<

Hi, Joy,

great to meet you again.

Neither die "Amt Neustadt am Ruebenberge" nor the "Amt Wölpe" still exist today in their boundaries as those existed in your time frame of interest.

Regarding the "Amt Wölpe" i.e. see this Wikipedia article

Very first sentence [quote] Das Amt Wölpe war ein aus der Grafschaft Wölpe hervorgegangenes und bis 1859 bestehendes Amt [end of quote] - bottom line: this "Amt" / district existed until 1859...

On this same Wikipedia page you'll also find a section "zugehörige Orte" / associated places. Now i.e. use Google maps, enter these place names and you'll for sure easily notice how close these are to the places of origin of your ancestors.

I trust that I've already told you about / pointed you to Archion, a new German Lutheran church book portal, right?
Talking about the "Kirchenkreis Neustadt" (church district Neustadt) on this website you'll see for which parishes church books are available via Archion
https://www.archion.de/de/browse/#https://www.archion.de/de/browse/&path=41206-473897

Click on the parish names (Basse, Bordenau....) in order to see the available church books in detail.
In order to view / access these church books one needs to become a registered member and buy a so-called "Pass" / literally "passport". I seem to recall that I already informed you about the details.

Kind regards,
Vera

Hi Vera,

Vielen Dank.
I did not know these 2 "Amts" were no longer in exsistence.

This area is right where my ancestors came from, so I am pretty sure the ship record I found on ancestry.com in their "new lists" for passengers is the right one. It matches the information of a newspaper article I have on his 100th birthday...that he went to America at age 28 alone.

I have not tried Archion yet...but plan to do so in the future.
Best regards,
Joy

Hi Joy:

Does your ancestor have a name?

The Bremen Packet had 114 passengers, with only 38 surnames and only 8
places listed as place of last residence, 69 from (Woelpe) Wölpe and 11
from Neustadt. This sounds like a charter, if there was such a thing. I
see no 28 year old males, but there is one 29 years old. Heinrich Runge.

Amt Wölpe, Amt Rehburg, Niederwetz, Hausen, Neustadt, Leuterhausen,
Niederoleen, and Klein Wallstadt are the listed last residences.

With only 38 families and 8 locations (even if they no longer exist) you
should be able to narrow down your search. You may want to try
Familysearch.org for the locations listed above.

Luck,

Gale

Hi, Joy,

you're most welcome.

Great to learn that you finally found your ancestor's passenger list record. Congrats.

Some time back we already did some research in the church books of Hagen, remember??
....and Hagen, back then belonged to the "Amt Wölpe" ;-))

Back then we also found that some of your ancestors were from Noepke (today part of Neustadt am Rübenberge), right?

And now with many of the relevant church books being online accessible via Archion.... maybe we should follow "the traces" again.

Kind regards,
Vera

Hi Vera,

No, I don't remember finding relatives from Hagen or Noepke......
There were some from Helstorf and some from Luttmersen... but I don't think their records go back far enough.

I think also earlier relatives moved to Steimbke and Dudensen area.

I want to research more on my direct line...so I may switch to finding more about my gg grandfather's wife's family (Möll) in Buhlbronn and Steinbach( Backnang)....but Archion does not have those records yet.

My only fear of Archion is that I won't be able to "read" the German script correctly and miss important information.
