I need some information on the Amt. Wölpe and Amt. Neustadt.I am pretty sure I finally found my gg grandfather listed on the ship Brig Bremen Packet, which sailed from Bremen to NY in 1837.
He was from the area of what is now called Neustadt am Ruebenberge.(which has the towns of Lutter, Mandelsloh, etc.)
Is Amt. Wölpe still in exsistence? And how close are the 2 districts mentioned above to each other? Thanks,Joy<<
Hi, Joy,
great to meet you again.
Neither die "Amt Neustadt am Ruebenberge" nor the "Amt Wölpe" still exist today in their boundaries as those existed in your time frame of interest.
Regarding the "Amt Wölpe" i.e. see this Wikipedia article
Very first sentence [quote] Das Amt Wölpe war ein aus der Grafschaft Wölpe hervorgegangenes und bis 1859 bestehendes Amt [end of quote] - bottom line: this "Amt" / district existed until 1859...
On this same Wikipedia page you'll also find a section "zugehörige Orte" / associated places. Now i.e. use Google maps, enter these place names and you'll for sure easily notice how close these are to the places of origin of your ancestors.
I trust that I've already told you about / pointed you to Archion, a new German Lutheran church book portal, right?
Talking about the "Kirchenkreis Neustadt" (church district Neustadt) on this website you'll see for which parishes church books are available via Archion
https://www.archion.de/de/browse/#https://www.archion.de/de/browse/&path=41206-473897
Click on the parish names (Basse, Bordenau....) in order to see the available church books in detail.
In order to view / access these church books one needs to become a registered member and buy a so-called "Pass" / literally "passport". I seem to recall that I already informed you about the details.
Kind regards,
Vera
