Where have you looked? And what is the source of your information?
I do not speak German, my husband does, but is working alot.
You do not have to speak a German to find the information you want.
First get some recent books from your library system books on researching
your family history/genealogy including ones on Internet and German
genealogy. Read them and then look at your information and resume you
search.
Get a genealogy data base program like Legacy (free version available),
Rootsmagic or Personal Ancestor file ( also free)
Then find the nearest Family History Center near your home by going to
familysearch.org. There is a huge one in Mesa.
Most FHCs and many libraries have subscriptions to Ancestry.com
You want to start with what you know and and work backwards.
Here they are in the 1880 Census:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace
Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
Dirke OLTMAN Self M Male W 65 PRUSSIA Farmer
PRU PRU.
Margaret OLTMAN Wife M Female W 64 PRUSSIA Keeps
House PRU PRU.
Luhbert OLTMAN Son S Male W 18 PRUSSIA At Home
PRU PRU.
Census Place Orvil, Logan, Illinois
Look for them in the 1870 Census and look for the son in the 1900
Census on Ancestry or through the FHC. The 1900 Census will have the
year he said he immigrated.
Find if they were naturalized and if so get copies of their papers. Find
especially through what port they entered. Then you can search the
Passenger Arrivals Lists for the port.
I have their Headstone, but need help finding other info on them"
immigration date birth/ see above
death certificates Join the Illinois list. from another list I
belive the IL death records are on line for a number of years.
marriage info
children: Apparently they had only the one son but check Oltman's ,
Oltmanns born after 1880 in Logan County in the 1900 Census
maybe a number I could call in Germany to get this information.
You do not have enough information to invest in that and probably you
would not need to do that.
