Die Wendenlande

Thank you to Ingolf, Andrei and Patsy,
I have a lot of information on the Wends, (now called the Sorbs) and have
met a lot of people with Wendish surnames. The Domowina Association in
Cottbus and the Concordia University in Texas have offered good resources.
Sorbisch language is a recognized language in Germany today with an upper
and lower forms.
Not to mention there is a Wendish Society in Australia as well.
While the two surnames I am researching are said to be of Wendish/Sorbish
origin, this time I am pleased with the response of finding the general area
my grandfather's cousin wrote as being the "Land of Wends" or " die
Wendenlande" where the surname KLEMKE originates, he wrote. I understand it
to be a rather wide region but that is useful information.
I have no indications of them being culturally or ethnically Wendish in
in former or recent centuries or after they arrived from the Neumark area in
1880.

Thank you so much for your time and help.
Sincerely,
Amy Klemke Uehara
