I am researching Degener from Rodewald/Hannover; Erich from Gadesbunden -
Heemsen/Hannover; Dieke and Wesemann from Hannover - possibly the Hoya area. My
Degeners emigrated approx. 1840/41 to Cook/DuPage counties, Illinois. The
Erichs to DuPage and Kankakee counties, Illinois approx. 1845-1850 and my Dieke
and Wesemann families to Cook and Kankakee counties, Illinois approx 1845-1850.
Some Degener cousins went to Randolph County, Illinois approx 1842. Looking
for the marriage date for Heinrich Wilhelm Degener born 30 May 1819 in
Rodewald and Rosine Cathrine Margrethe Erich born 11 July 1815 in Gadesbunden bei
Heemsen - they were in Illinois approx 1841. Thanks much and take care - Don
Hello Don,
My Great-great grandmother was Luise Catharine DOROTHEA Hanne DEEKE.
Possibly a spelling variation of your DIEKE family. Other variations are
THIEKE and THEEKE. Dorothea was born in Lutter near Neustadt am Rbg, Kingdom
of Hannover, on 12 October, 1819. Her parents were Carl Heinrich DEEKE and
Luise Bsing. She married my g.g.grandfather, Johann Heinrich Benjestorf, ca
1840. He was from Osterwald O/E, also in KoH. They spent the rest of their
lives in Osterwald and Dorothea died there on 21 November, 1887.
If it turns out there's a connection, I have a scan of a photograph of
Dorothea DEEKE if you are interested in a copy of it.

I found a family of Deike (probably pronounced Dicka) in my GF's (two doors away) home town of Anderten in Amt. Hoya KOH. The spelling you have would be pronounced Deeka in German.
I found no reference to any of the other names you mentioned.
In the 1852 census there are the following:
Johan Heinrich 52
Dorothee Sophie 53
Friedrich Wilhelm 18
Georg Heinrich 16
Dorothee Mariee Sophie 22
Marie Sophie Elisabeth 20
Others in the household are:
Georg Beerman 30
Marie Sophie Koithan 72 Altenteilerin (Old woman?) Since she is not a Deike, I am guessing that she is Dorothee Sophie's mother.
Oh! Another thing, many of the people from Anderten went to western Iowa.
If you have folks that were married in Illinois, give me their names and I can look them up on the all-Illinois index at IRAD, the Illinois Regional Archives Depository. It's only about 10 minutes from my house and it's free.
I have a book called "Degeners Nopke #21 1674 - 1984" written by Verna Drake from Randolph County, Illinois. The inside cover says "Degeners From Nopke #21, Kreis Neustadt-am-Rubenberge, Hannover Province, Germany 1654 - 1984". Verna says that they immigrated in 1842. (I would walk past the home of the Degener, Verna's home, to and from grade school.)
Do you think that the Illinois Degeners have any part in your line of Degeners? Can you give me some birthdates or years for the Degeners?
Hope there is a connection
