I have been studying the records of Hude Parish which contain a list named
"Franzoesische Contribution, 1679." This shows taxes levied to pay
indemnities imposed after the French occupied Oldenburg in 1679, plundering
and pillaging between Delmenhorst and Oldenburg. This would have been
shortly after the Danezeit began, and according to the source I am studying,
the king of Denmark (Christian V?) had joined a coalition against Louis XIV.
I cannot find a reference on the internet that allows me to safely identify
this war and understand the background of the list. Can anyone Identify
this war for me by its conventional name? Are their any German or English
websites which would provide a good of it?
Unfortunately, you don't read Danish (I presume!). Otherwise, you could read about the Swedish-Danish war 1675-79 in Politikens Danmarkshistorie VIII, pp. 161 ff, and about the peace establihed as a result of the intervention by Louis XIX in 1779 pp. 249 ff. In general France and other nations were not interested in the Sound (�resund between Zealand and Scania) being controlled entirely by either Denmark or Sweden. Hence, Louis XIX in 1779 occupied Oldenburg and forced Denmark to give up the territories it had won during the war.
