Damme, Oldenburg

Hi Virginia,

I'm a little confused by your e-mail to the Hannover list. There is an
Oldenburg list which has members knowledgeable about Oldenburg, the same way the
Hannover members are about Hannover (although I admit there is a large overlap
between the two lists). It seems that the Oldenburg list would be a better
place to pose your question.

Also, you asked about which village to check, but your subject line lists
Damme. Damme is the parish which has/had a number of Ronnebaum families/farms.
Did you have information that they were from Damme, or was that just a guess?
There were quite a number of Ronnebaum baptisms in the period 1848 - 1852,
and some are identified as having emigrated to America. Have you checked the
Morman Family History Centers? They have all of the records for Damme for this
time period microfilmed. I'd suggest reviewing the records and perhaps with
other information you have you can determine whether your Ronnebaum was from
Damme.

I assume you're looking for the two people separately in the passenger
records. Since they were from opposite sides of Germany, I'd bet they met and were
married here.

By the way, where did your Ronnebaums end up in the States? Cincinnati?
There are a number of Ronnebaum families that ended up here (I see a stain glass
window with Ferdinand Ronnebaum's name on it every Sunday when I go to Mass).
Also, the largest concentration of Oldenburgers in the US (in a major city)
was here, and there were a large number of Bavarians here too.

Hope this helps,
Don

Dear Friends,
You have been so helpful in my search for my BOHNE ancestors, I'm hoping you
might be able to give me ideas on where to look for my RONNEBAUM relatives.
On the 1900 census, he states that he was from Oldenburg, Germany. Oldenburg
is a big place. I have not been able to locate him or Wilhalmina in passenger
lists and I don't know the village in Oldenburg where I can write for
information.
His name is Heinrich Johann RONNEBAUM, born about 1850 in Oldenburg. He
emigrated either in 1870 or 1872.
His wife's name is Wilhalmina MEYER who, I believe, is from Bayern. She was
born on November 23, 1853.

Would anyone know whom I can contact to get the names of the villages where
they were born and their parents' names?

I would deeply appreciate any help you can give me.
