If this Cohrs family settled in the midwest...

It's possible they arrived to U.S. by port of New Orleans...rather than New York. Probobly likely. Other smaller ports were in Alabama, Florida and Texas I believe.

I believe there were steamboats that ran up the Mississippi in the mid 19th century onward.

Thank you for the suggestion, Barbie. I also know that only about 20% of the
emigrants are listed in the Zimmerman and Wohlfert books according to their
Introduction. They list only those who provided their specific place of
origin.
