I am looking for information about Claus Claussen. The Modoc County, California "Great Register of 1883" has him living in the county at age 33. The register says he was born in Germany. He is the father of Arnold G. Claussen who married Ramona Johnston somewhere near Alturas California. Arnold was a rancher. I would greatly appreciate any informaton that anyone has. I ran across something that had a claus claussen from schleswig-holstein but I'm not sure it was the same man.
Hi Brady,
Do you have any information with which ship or where Claus Claussen entered
the US? Neither Claussen nor Claus is a very unique name in
Schleswig-Holstein. Even if his year of birth (1850) narrows it down a bit.

Ralf,
I don't know the name of the ship or port of entry. Do you know of any good sources for this kind of information? Best Regards and thank you for your reply. Brady Claussen.
Hello Brady,
only saw your posting today, and cannot really help you significantly.
I would however advise to get in touch with:
which is the forum for Northern German ancestry and the name Claus Claussen
does definitely sound Northern German. Schleswig-Holstein is a very good
guess, bordering on to Denmark where as in other Scandinavian Countries
sons would be named after the father, the name Claus Claus---sen meaning
'this is Claus, the son of Claus'.
Other Northern German provinces were (and still are) Mecklenburg out of
which a tremendous amount of immigrants came, also Niedersachsen (Lower
Saxony).
