You seem to have the same problem I had re Hanover. My great hrandfather said on his son's baptismal record (in New Orleans) that he was from Hildescheim in Hanover.
But a search of church records in Hildescheim city revealed nothing. I went to the LDS library here in St. Louis and got the film for emigrants departing from the port of Hamburg. He was on that list and he stated that his 'Place of Origin' was Baddeckensted, a small village near Hildescheim, probably less than 50 km.away. Alas, he was not on any church records there. Then I learned that 'Place of Origin' does not necessarily mean place of birth, maybe where he resided just prior to emigration.
What information do you already have? Post as much of that as possible and I'm sure you will get much help from the list.
