Church Records - Symbols

My apologies if this has been asked before...

I have been searching through microfilm of some old
church records. Can
someone clarify for me the various styles of crosses
written in the margins.
I figure they are death dates, but am uncertain as to
the meaning of the
styles of the crosses. The records I am looking at

are

in Latin, and are
from 1780 - 1837. This is from Catholic Records of
Brochthausen (Kreis
Duderstadt.)

Also - can anyone suggest where I may find access to
more records? There are
only a few dates available on film through the LDS.

Thank you,
Cindy Krieter

In response to Cindy's question, I have found "If I
Can, You Can Decipher Germanic Records" by Edna M.
Bentz helpful. ISBN 0-9615420-0-4 Many local
libraries do have this booklet. She has a section
which deals with symbols, not only dealing with German,
but also Danish and Latin, which may help with those
researching Catholic ancestors.

Even with this book, it is not easy. You can't pick
out one symbol and look it up. You have to look at the
whole picture to make sure you are using the right
group of symbols.

Have fun
