Church picture

List,
Awhile back I saw a picture of the OLD CHURCH at Alt Christburg, Kreis Mohrungen, Germany. I think it was a part of
someone's Family History. I thought I saved the picture but cannot now find it. I traveled to Alt Christburg in 1995 and again in
2004 so I have pictures of the church the way it is now.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A PICTURE OF THE OLD CHURCH IN ALT CHRISTBURG WITH THE STEEPLE???
Please reply to me off list at:

Thank you,

Charles,
There are photos here:

As far as I am aware there is only one church in the village - at one
time Evangelical and now Roman Catholic.
I also have some photos I will try to find to send you.
My great hope is to one day find records for the Evangelical church
apart from the few confirmation ones which are known to have survived
and available in Polish Archives in Olsztyn.
Kind regards,
Bronwyn.

Dear Bronwyn,
Thank you for the picture suggestion. I saw those on the OstPreussen.net. Also, I have pictures like that from my
visits in 1995 and 2004.
I was told by the Priest of the Church that the top of the old church, Evangelical Church, was blown off by
the Russians and the interior mostly burned out. They were going to tare the building down but the Alt Christburg,
and surrounding area, people wanted there own church so they rebuilt it. In 1995 there were grave markers on one side
of the church. In 2004 these were gone. We were told that they had been moved to the old cemetery. When we visited
the old cemetery there were NO markers at all, just a few bottoms of grave markers. There was a new Catholic cemetery
also.
My GGrandfather, John Braun, his wife, Christine (Schilling) Braun and 5 of their children arrived in Baltimore, MD
on November 10, 1887 aboard the SS Donau.
I asked the Priest, the same one on both of my visits, if there were Church Records and he said NO.
Have you seen the confirmation records that are archived in Allenstein?
May I ask where you live?
My home in Osceola, Wisconsin is located about 40KM northeast of St Paul, MN on the St. Croix River.
I sure wish I had more to share with you about Alt Christburg. What was your family names attached
to Alt Christburg and when did they live there?
Regards,
Charles Braun
