Charles Loges mother is listed as Wilhelmine Bedecker on the LDS site. I found a Christening for a Carolina Wilhelmina Baedeker on the same site. Charles and Ida's daughters were named Caroline, Emily and Ida, which follows the 2nd pattern for naming children which is what caught my eye looking for his mother.

The christening says: 28 Aug 1818 Evangelisch, Aplerbeck, Westfalen, Preussen.

What does Evangelisch, Aplerbeck mean?

Also, does the male name Diederich translate into an english version?

I am looking into this Carolina Wilhelmina Baedeker as it would put her at the right age.

Any help with the above questions are greatly appreciated.

Aplerbeck = town in Westfalen (Westphalia) named Aplerbeck , today part of Dortmund.

Dietrich is actually from Old High German = diot (people) + rik (ruler). Additional forms of Dietrich include Dierk, Derk, and Dirk.

A common German variant is Dieter (Diether), again from Old High German = diot (people) + heri (army).

Theodore may seem like a bit of a reach, but it remains the closest recognized English equivalent. Theodore is also a German name in its own right.
