Census 1852 site

I have been to
http://hist.de/edition-hist(e).html
I know I should spend hours on it before I ask my question. However at this point I will ask now. Has anyone accessed census for a region in Hannover by the Elbe river. So far I see Celle and Hoya region and Rethem and Verden.
These are regions that I have hardly investigated.
Also, would any of you know, do you access this informtion from this site and pay? Or do you access it from somewhere else and pay. It sounds good to see a census. Wouldn't it solve some of our problems. I am also attempting to ltry the new find buch site. Very complicated. Any help or
comments would be welcome.

Dear Jo Meyer,

I have been to
http://hist.de/edition-hist(e).html
I know I should spend hours on it before I ask my question. However at this
point I will ask now. Has anyone accessed census for a region in Hannover by
the Elbe river. So far I see Celle and Hoya region and Rethem and Verden.
These are regions that I have hardly investigated.
Also, would any of you know, do you access this informtion from this site
and pay? Or do you access it from somewhere else and pay. It sounds good to
see a census. Wouldn't it solve some of our problems.

The orginal lists of the Hannover census of 1852* are preserved for about 70 % or
more of the cities and Ämter (county like) districts. In 2002 we have begun to edit
these census lists, but this project is still just at the beginning, just like a stone thrown
into the water.

* There were detailed census takes in 1855, 1858, 1861 and 1864 as well, and for a
number of regions these lists are preserved as well.

Yes, the census surely will be very helpful if there will be a much more complete
name index and data base some day - especially helpful to find people who
emigrated in the 1850s or 1860s and for whom we only know, apart of the name and
age, that they came "from Hannover". At the moment the orginal census lists are at
four different state archives in dozens of different holdings and there are a number of
census lists of 1852 which we can find in other archives of districts (Kreise) and
cities.

For the census data we already have published or already have in our database (Amt
Achim, Martfeld, Hoya, Schwarme, Lemförde, city of Bodenwerder and Harsefeld)
you can contact me at edition@hist.de and I will send you data for a certain fee or
booklets for the towns you are intersted in. At the moment we have begun to work on
the Ämter Winsen/Aller, Ottersberg and Horneburg.

While Harsefeld and Horneburg are at least close to the river Elbe, the regions you
are interested in might not be covered by this database yet. This means that the only
way to get the data is to check the orginal holdings and lists or to send a request to
the relevant archives. For the region near the river Elbe most of the census lists are
at the Stade State Archive.

I hope this brief information helps a bit.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Kind Regards,

Regina Koppe
