Erste entschuldigen bitte mein armes Deutsches. Ich benutze einen Übersetzer, AltaVista Babelfish, um von englischem zum Deutschen zu übersetzen. Ich kenne nur einige Wörter des Deutschen.

Mein großes - Großmutter, Bertha HOKE, war in einer Stadt geboren, die Buckorvintke nahe der Stadt von Juliusburg, Krs. Oels. Ich bin nicht 100%, das der Rechtschreibung zwar sicher ist. Sie scheint, Buckorvintke auf dem Bestätigungspapier zu sein, das ich von ihrem habe. Buckorvintke muss ein sehr kleines Dorf nahe Juliusburg sein, weil ich es auf allen möglichen Diagrammen nicht finden kann, die ich betrachtet habe. Ich habe ein Diagramm, das Juliusburg aber nicht Buckorvintke zeigt.

Ich möchte wissen, wenn jedermann mir erklären kann, wenn sie von dieses Dorf gehört haben und wenn die Rechtschreibung des Namens korrekt ist. Auch tut jedermann haben ein Diagramm, das das Dorf zeigen kann.

First please excuse my poor German. I am using a translator, AltaVista Babel fish, to translate from English to German. I only know a few words of German.

My Great Grandmother, Bertha HOKE, was born in a town called Buckorvintke near the town of Juliusburg, Krs. Oels. I am not 100% certain of the spelling though. It appears to be Buckorvintke on the Confirmation paper that I have of hers. Buckorvintke must be a very small village near Juliusburg because I cannot find it on any maps that I have looked at. I have a map that shows Juliusburg but not Buckorvintke.

I would like to know if anyone can tell me if they have heard of this village and if the spelling of the name is correct. Also, does anyone have a map that may show the village.

Hi, Kris - my German is fairly non-existant too.

There are many Schlesian towns with spellings similar to the one you are
researching. If you determine yours is the one Dick Ulrich found on Kartenmeister, I would appreciate exchanging research with you. We have a letter from the evangelical pastor in Maliers (since 1935 is Malen) used as passport for my family in 1875.

If not, let me refer you to this atlas.

It is in German, but the maps are widely used in Schlesian research. Many libraries have it (including the Concordia Univ. if you are in the Mpls-St.Paul area). It has a page on each kreis with a great map and a little about each.

I usually refer to Buckowintke in relation to Breslau (now Wroclaw). Best I can determine it is about 20 mi NE of Wroclaw. My cousin was there in 1998, confirms that is close. There's not much there except a sign.

Also, best as I can determine, the town name timeline is something like this (my people emigrated from there 1867, 1869, 1875):
1867: Buckowintke, Gro� Graben, Oels, Schlesian, Germany
1935: Buckowintke became Buchenwerder still in Gro� Graben, Oels, Schlesian, Germany
1988: Buchenwerder had become Bukowinka, Poland and had another name change to: Bukowinka, Oleśnicki, Twardog�ra, Dolno�l�skie, Poland

In 1935, Buckowintke belonged to the "Amtsbezirk" (administrative district) of Gro� Graben with its 5 communities Buchenwalde, Buchenwerder, Gro� Graben, Malen und Wei�ensee. Evangelical church records I think are gone. The Mormons say there are no books to film. They do have some katholic records though.

Mein großes - besuchte Schule Großmutter Anna-Bertha Pauline HOKE in Julisuburg und ich glauben, dass Juliusburg ist, wo sie ihr Bestätigungspapier empfing. (Konfirmations Schein)

Mein großes großes - großväterlicher Fritz Ernst HOKE soll in Buckowintke entsprechend Familiengeschichte begraben werden.

Wenn jedermann das Bestätigungspapier betrachten möchte ich, haben Sie es gescannt. Ich könnte auch eMail einige alte Fotographien von Juliusburg, wenn jedermann interessiert ist.

In meiner ursprünglichen Mitteilung vergaß ich, zu erwähnen, dass ich nach evangelischen Aufzeichnungen suchen würde.

I would have to conclude that Buckowintke is the correct town. Buckowintke is only 5 miles north of Julilusburg. At some point the HOKE family must have moved to Juliusburg. My Great Grandmother Anna Bertha Pauline HOKE attended school in Julisuburg and I believe Juliusburg is where she received her Confirmation paper. (Konfirmations Schein )

My Great Great Grandfather Fritz Ernst HOKE is supposed to be buried in Buckowintke according to family history.

If anyone would like to look at the Confirmation paper I do have it scanned. I could also e-mail a few old photographs of Juliusburg if anyone is interested.

In my original message I forgot to mention that I would be looking for Evangelical records.
