BRUNYER/BRUNIGES and OTTEN

Hello Hans Peter,

Maybe its only an idea, but your Brunyer sounds to German ears very French. Did
you check this origin ?

This is an interesting idea. I thought it sounded sort of French, too. I do know that the individual in question came from Hannover, as the idea is substantiated not only by British census reports, but also by records for which he provided the information himself. He joined the LDS church in 1840 and would have been the person providing the data on the membership records. There is still some discrepancy in the dates as they show up on baptismal records, later congregational records, and other documents, however. The birth date stays constant, but the recorded year varies. I do know that he was married in Sheffield, England in 1829, and that his wife was born in 1805 in England. I didn't know that the French were up in that part of Germany then; this is something to look into. Thanks for the idea!
