I do have a copy of the passenger list you mention. The Henry H. Bruer you
found in the 1900 Census is the first born son of my 3rd great grandfather
Henry Bruer. I think maybe it's possible that the informant on my 3rd great
grandfather's death certificate may have thought that since the son had the
middle initial "H", the father also had the same middle initial. We'll never
know for sure though....
