New to list. Looking for information on CHARLES BAXMANN left germany approx.
1900 for the USA. Went back about 1906 and then returned to the USA. 3 years
later AMELIA (MOLLY) STRAUSS followed and they were married. I can trace them
back this far but now I've hit a brick wall. He died in 1908 of flu so I did
not know him and my father was only 8 when he passed so we only have memories
to do this search but I am making progress. Any help from anyone on this list
will be most appreciated. I have done the LDS, census, ships lists and mailed
some of the BAXMANNs in Germany but nothing so far.
Sorry I have to write this in English but never learned your language.

Dear Mrs. Baxmann,
CHARLES Baxmann should come from somewhere in northern Germany.
Near the Hohenstein, close to Hessisch Oldendorf there is a Baxmann Baude,
a kind of shelter close to wandering and climbing hills. There is a legend
involving a Baxmann who was condemned to empty a well with a pierced spoon.
Hessisch Oldendorf is part of the territory Schaumburg, but the Schaumburg
Auswanderer 1820-1914 shows just a Bax, but no Baxmann.
The Brunswick emigration lists by Fritz Gruhne do just cover 1846 - 1871, but do
include a Wilhelm Martin Anton Rudolph Baxmann, a cooper joureyman from
Wolfenbuettel, who had to announce his emigration to America in 1854.
Sincerely yours
