I am trying to find where my grandfather's family was in Haapel. His name was Jakab Borchers, born in 1878 or so, and his mother was Anna Borchers. We have no record of the name of the father although grandfather referred to brothers that lived in a neighboring town. One brother had been a teacher in this unnamed town. Both Jakab and Anna were born in Haapel and Anna was buried there in the mid 1930s. Grandfather married Anna Martens and they lived on a farm in Selsingen and he died there in the 1960s.
I would appreciate any information that could be shared with me regarding this aspect of my family ancestry.

Hallo Charlene, I'm sure, You mean Haaßel, which is a very small village 3
km east of Selsingen and today part of Selsingen. You can try to get more
information by
Samtgemeinde Selsingen
Bahnhofstr. 8
D-27446 Selsingen
or
Heimatfreunde Selsingen
Maragretha Grafelmann
Hellhof 10
D-27446 Selsingen
or look at
www.selsingen .de ! The name Borchers is very common, also the first names
Anna and Jakob. In the telefonbook of Selsingen today are more than 10
Borchers !
Nevertheless good luck !

Hi Charlene,
I'd start with the Church in Selsingen and see if you can get both parents and perhaps grandparents of your Jakab Borchers. The LDS FHC has Selsingen's church records 1715-1852 available on microfilm so if you can get back to 1852 then you should be able to use the films to trace your line back to the early 1700s. I don't have a direct line to the Borcher family, however my Benecke/Behnken family from Anderlingen (just east of Selsingen and Haaßel) intermarried with the Borcher family in the mid 1750s and 1780s. I've not looked at my lines from that area for some time. Other surnames I'm connected to in that area include: Bredehöft, Hincken, Brandt/Brandjen, and Helmer.

Hi Charlene,
Have you seen this information:
http://www.immigrantships.net/v4/1800v4/rhein18850619_02.html
If you scroll down to the end, you will see a lot of information about
Borchers. Both Haapel (Naapel) and Selsingen are mentioned there.
