Blexen marriage records

Hello,
I continue to search for the marriage record for ancestor Ferdinand Hermann
Hachez and his wife Louise who married about 1847 somewhere near, but likely not
in, Bremen. No civil record has been found there. They came to New Holstein,
Wisconsin, in 1854, with their six-year-old son Ferdinand.

One location for their marriage may be the rural area north of Bremen, with
names including Blexen, where his father owned farms. This area was also
referred to as the Butjadinger Land in the 1800s. See the area on this map:

Where do you think I should look for possible church records? Nordenham seems to
be a somewhat larger town or city in that rural area. Unfortunately, the Family
History Library catalog shows no resources for Blexen or Nordenham. Is there an
archive for this area where records of marriages in rural churches would have
been sent?

Might a young couple at that time have gone just across the Weser River to
Bremerhaven to be married? There are records for Bremerhaven for this period --
from Evangelische Kirche Bremerhaven.

Thank you for any help you can provide.
Danke,
Barbara

Hello Barbara,

Why don't you just send an e-mail to Frau Irene Volkmer at St. Hippolyt Church in Blexen.

Ask Frau Irene Volkmer, at the Kirchenbro Blexen, if they still keep the records you are looking for, if not where are they archived and how can you access them. However I suggest using the German webpage for your inquiry at:

http://www.kirche-blexen.de/blexen/index.html

You just click on "kontact" left hand side of the screen, then scroll down and there is an online facility to send a brief message direct to the parish.

Pastor of St. Hippolytus Church since 1 July 1995 is Michael Gdicke. He has written extensively on the history of the church and the church community.

Then "google" St. Hippolyt Church in Blexen you can read all about the history of the parish. It is the oldest church in "Kirchenkreis Butjadingen" and in 1989 celebrated 1200 years. You can use google translation for most of the sites just to get a general idea of the parish and the history. Computer generated translators are not perfect but can be useful.

You will be looking for a church record in 1847, civil records usually began after the Unification of Germany in 1871.

I hope this helps,

Elizabeth

Dear Barbara,

You should contact the Oldenburg state archives:

Staatsarchiv Oldenburg, Samm 43, 26135 Oldenburg,
oldenburg (at) nla (dot) niedersachsen (dot) de

as the left bank of the river Weser was/is part of that historical region

Nordenham was acknowledged as a town in 1905,
and Blexen is the oldest part of it.

Greetings
