Hello to all list members, wishing all a Happy New Year
Have come across a brick wall whilst trying to track down my maternal grandmother's family. Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. Whilst I have an abundance of information on my grandfather's side I have very little on the Demske/Demski side. What I do know is this.
Lida Demske born 9 Oct 1911, place unknown as parents travelled for fathers job
she married between 1927-1934 in Oldenburg city to Hans Bernhardt Bleckwehl, born 15 Sep 1911 in Oldenburg city
Lida's father was Albert Jacob Demski, supposedly from Ganzig, born 18 Aug 1878
Mother was NN Lowner
Is it possible to get details from Lida and Hans's marriage record to discover more??? Or are these records not available yet???
I know I am grasping at straws here.
Tania
Hello Tania,
in each case, the marriage record of Hans and Lida should be accessible to you, as you are a direct descendent.
If they were married before 1930, the records are free to anyone, and should be at the Staatsarchiv in Oldenburg.
The records for 1931 (and later) are still at the Standesamt, and accessible for direct ancestors.
Problem is how to transfer the fee for the marriage record from Australia to Oldenburg.
You could write an e-mail to both of them, asking for the record , and ask how to transfer the money, hoping that they look it up for free, or tell you how to get the money around the world, and the record to you. If you tell them your situation, and ask for specific information you need, it might be, that they just answer your questions. But be patient. If at all, they do it for the sake of interest, and helping someone from a far-away continent.
Good luck
Heinz
