Bitte, a bit of geography?

We have assumed because of IGI listng that my 2nd ggf, Herman Heinrich Walkenhorst was born in/near Werther. But we have a written account that says:
Halle Kreis Regienrung Bezierek Minden Prussia.

Is this near Werther? I realize that much of the surrounds of Werther were at one time incorporated into Werther.

Also, 'horst' means wood. What do Panhorst and Walkenhorst mean

Danke.

Somehow Westfalen-L keeps rejecting this. I'll try again.

Halle and Werther are in my general research area. The county or Kreis
usually is called by the name of the administrative city or "county seat" as
we call it. Regiennung is Regierung (government or administration),
Bezierek is Bezirk (a district or region). The Kreise (plural of Kreis) and
districts have changed around considerably over the years. I have an old
book showing that at one time there was a Kreis Halle (or Halle Kreis, as in
your record). Minden is a larger town north of that area and has served
both as the center of a "county" (Kreis Minden) and an administrative
district at different times.

That being the case, your record would read "Halle County, Administrative
District Minden."

In other words, the town was Werther, the county was Halle, which was in the
larger administrative district of Minden.

Go to Mapquest.com (a little easier to use) or expedia.com (better maps). on
expedia, select Europe, put in Halle, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany in the
box for city. You will get a good map and can zoom in or out and "walk" in
different directions.

Minden is not on the expedia map; you have to zoom out or move north to see
it. But Werther and Halle show up very well.

For costumes from the village of Halle, go to the Schnake web site:

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~schnake/costumes/costumes.htm

You can double click the Halle picture to get a larger one. You can
download by right-clicking and you will have a nice picture of costumes from
your ancestor's area.

The web site that I gave below is incorrect for the Halle costumes:

Thanks to those who alerted me.

I'm curious.....where can I find pictures of the
costumes worn in Lippe-Detmold, specifically
Wissentrup or Rheda?

Thanks!
