        My wife has Janssen relatives living in Brake. Their ancestors however came from Bockhorn, Grabstede and Westerstede.

How far back does her Janssen line go in the Brake area? This is also my
wife's line and I am looking at a Dodo/Dode Janssen in the late 1700's and
early 1800's.

I have been researching the Meyer line from Oldenberg. John Henry Meyer born Dec 3, 1844. Father was Franz Anton Meyer.

Have more info if needed.

        Not to far, I'm afraid. Her cousin Uwe Janssen (retired sea captain) lives there now. His ancestors and my wife's are documented back to the 1700's in the Grabstede,Bockhorn and Westerstede areas..................................Richard L. Schindall

I have in my wife's family Amalie Catherine Frederike Gristede b: 12 March
1840 d/of Johann Gristede and Anna Catherine Margarete Meyer. I have
nothing further on the Gristede or Meyer families and would welcome anything
I may receive on this lines.

I have this data from Gerd Janssen, the expert on Westerstede:

Talke Lena Meyer-Hollanders Spars, DOB 14 Aug 1781 in Westerloy, Oldenberg,
YOD about 1812. Her father? was Tonjes (Strömer) Hollander and her mother
was Helene Thielen
  Tonjes and Helene were married in Westerstede.

Almut \Meyers\ Röder, DOB 21 Jan 1665 in Westerloy, Oldenberg, DOD 24 Oct
1742 in Westerloy, Oldenberg, DOM 07 Sep 1700 to Erhard Roder YOB 1648, DOD
3 Feb 1718
  Almut's father was Gerd Meyers, DOD 29 Dec 1704 in Westerloy, Almut's
mother was Anna NN, DOD 31 Dec 1704 in Westerloy.

Thanks Richard, your family came from an area within reasonable traveling
distance of Brake for someone looking for work, so it is quite possible
there is a connection further back. I'll keep this exchange on file in case
it develops.
