Beverbruch was a colony. It was founded in the moors near Garrel on
March 13, 1837. The idea was to provide an alternative to emigration
for the Heuerleute in the area so that they could have a piece of land
of their own. The community has regularly published a history, the
first being at the 100th anniversary, another was published for the
150th and just last year one for the 175th anniversary. These books
attempt to follow each establishment along with their occupants over
time. My wife has some cousins there so the place is of interest to us
too but trying to find these history books is like pulling teeth. They
simply disappear into someone's bookshelf and stay there.
Anyway, I was able to reserve and order the 175th Anniversary copy.
Just as a frame of reference these things now approach their weight in
gold. Seriously, the book was 50 Euros and it cost 35 Euros to
ship it. Pretty soon it will be cheaper to fly over and bring books
back.
If anybody has any connections to Beverbruch, let me know and I'll see
what can be found. One of the problems with the current book is that
it keeps referencing the previous one which the locals have but I
don't.
