Hallo Mona, I read your recent posting on the Mecklenburg list re
your surnames you are researching. I also am researching the
surname of Bergmann and I was wondering if you might recognise
any of the following names .
Bergmann came from Schleswig-Holstein circa 1590 and settled in
Gulitz, Brandenburg. He married there and one of his sons,
Johann Bergmann settled in Gross Berge.They lived there for many
years until my ancestor Peter Bergmann married to Regina Vogler
in the small village of Gross Berge, Brandenburg. They lived there
until circa 1748 and my ancestor Hans Christian Bergmann went to
Spornitz, Mecklenburg and married Anna Margaretha Rogmann.
My Bergmann family have lived in Spornitz since 1739 and in fact
are still living there. My Great Great Grandfather Johann Carl
Ludwig Bergmann first emigrated to London England around 1855
or 1856 and married a German girl from near Hanover named Anna
Wellbrock.
The family later emigrated to Brisbane Australia in 1862. I also
believe there is a family of Bergmanns who lived in and around
Stargard who are connected to my Bergmanns, however I have
not as yet made a definite connection. I also believe there is
some connection between my Bergmann family and the family
Schutt from the Eldena Mecklenburg area. My Great Great
great Grandmother Catherine Elizabeth Henriette Voje married
Hans Pater Christian Schutt in Eldena on 5 July 1847. This was
one of 3 marriages for Catherine.
