There has been A LOT of response to an e-mail written by an American about
the frustration of not being able to read German. I wish I knew what those
e-mails said.
When I lived in Erlangen, Germany from 1954-55, the residents spoke both
German and English. At that time, English was a required subject in their
schools.
I am sorry that so few of us can read German.
