Since my first post, I have learned that my great grandfather Krueger had a marriage record at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit. It gave his full first name: Carl Johann Friedrich and exact date of birth 10-20-1845. It only said he was from Mecklenburg-Strelitz, it did not give a town name.

The death record at (Historic) Trinity Lutheran church states that Carl Friedr. Krueger born 20 October 1845 in Mecklenburg Strelitz died 3 August 1914 and was buried 8 August 1914. The death records at Trinity show a tendency to be fairly precise in stating where a person came from. There is a very good chance that Carl came from Strelitz which in 1931 was annexed into the city of Neustrelitz and renamed borough of Old-Strelitz (Strelitz-Alt). There is no guarantee for this since the duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz is also a possibility.

Mecklenburg-Strelitz meams the duchy. I don't see any indication that
the city of Strelitz is meant and Krüger is a very common name.
However, I checked the Schubert index of marriages of the city of
Strelitz and it seems that there is good candidate:
Krüger, Carl Friedrich Theodor (bricklayer), father: deceased Ludwig Krüger
got maaried on Nov. 26, 1839 in Strelitz to
Klingberg, Charl. Soph. Cath., father: deceased Joach. Heinr. Klingberg, shoemaker-master in Malchow
So it seems worth to read the birth (baptism) records at the Mormons.

Sorry I don't have any information on Krueger but the Klingberg name caught
my attention.
The Klingberg, Charl. Soph. Cath. might be:
Charlotte, Sophia, Catharina KLINGBERG, born 18.08.1812, Malchow youngest
daughter of Joachim Heinrich KLINGBERG, shoemaker, bapt. 08.07.1770 Malchow,
died 21.11.1823 burried 23.11.1823 Malchow and Christina Elisabeth Hanna
Friedericia SALZMANN (* unknown, maybe Sparrow; + unknown not Malchow),
marriage 03.02.1804, Malchow.
Other children were:
1. Klingberg, Catharina Dorothea * 18.12.1804, Malchow
2. Klingberg, Hanna Maria Dorothea, * 22.01.1807, Malchow
3. Klingberg, Sophia Hedwig Carolina, 28.08.1810, Malchow who married in
31.05.1833 a DOLL, Johann Joachim Ludwig, * 24.03.1802 Altschwerin, +
11.05.1862 Malchow, they had 7 childs.
