I see that you have transcribed the Oythe records. I am trying to locate a
Hermann Henry Hellmann born in 1830. We know there are ancestors of the
Hellmanns from Oythe. However, I cannot locate this specific Hellmann
(found one in Cloppenburg born in 1831). Do you have knowledge of other
locations for Hellmanns where I should look? I also know there are
Hellmanns in Alfhausen but he is not in that group either. Census documents
for U.S. say he was from Hanover.

Thank you so much for this information. If any one else on this list knows of locations for Hellmanns, I would appreciate your advice on where to search.

Kathy Reed

Hi Kathy,

You've helped me so much with the pictures and all...I will return the favor by looking for Hermann Henry Hellman names in 1830, in the Loningen, St. Vitus film that I have on loan. It includes Dekanat, Cloppenburg, Nordrhein & Westfalen. I go on Tuesday night....remember our family research center has lousy hours!

....(I found Johann Gerhard Lucken, my ancestor and his parents, on this film last night....different spelling and 2 years earlier than thought previously!)

Kathie McC.

Hi Kathy,

there are Hellmanns in Bakum. But no Herman Heinrich.

Bernd

Hello Kathy,
the "Bauernhöfe im Amt Vechta" listed a small Hellmann farm (17 hectare) in Oythe:

1568 Gerd Hellemann
1593 Hermann Hillemann
1662 uninhabited -- no house
1734 Heinrich Hellmann
1767 Johan Hinrich Hellemann
1815 died last owner Johann Hinrich Hellmann
leaves 5 underage children, the farm was rent out
1868 new farm house owner water miller Schuhmacher,
he moved the the Hellmann farmhouse to his water mill in Vechta on the Moorbach (source "Alt Vechta" in pictures)
1888 new land owner Meyer, the next farmer

Werner

I'm really glad to hear you're having luck with your Lukens. Thanks for checking. Believe me, don't look beyond 1830. We feel fairly certain about that date. We have a Death Certificate and a grrave marker.

Kathy

Thank you so much, Werner.

Kathy Reed

I see my new friend (cousin???) Kathy Reed has brought forth some interesting
replies to her quest for Hellmann info. Thank you Werner & Ron.

Ron, I've been told that my line goes back to Bernard & Sophia. I didn't have
siblings or much else yet going back that far, but with the info. you've given
it will make it easier to find the documents at the local FHC!

Kathy Reed's Herman Henry Hellmann came to Covington, KY much earlier than my
branch did, but we have tried to figure out if the branches connect somewhere
back along the way in Germany, but we just haven't been able to locate her guy
in any of the records on film here at the Cincinnati FHC.

Of course, I still haven't located my Diedrich Hellmann's baptism either. I did
get information from the Catholic Archives in Vetcha that Diedrich Gerhard
Hellmann was born Feb. 14, 1860 son of Johan "Joseph" Hellmann (of Ellenstedt) &
Anna Maria Meyer (this from his marriage record July 24, 1880). I have found
siblings of Diedrich born both before him & after him in the church records of
Goldenstedt, but no Diedrich nor of his brother Henry Bernard Hellmann who was
born Dec. 30, 1864. I've gone through the Goldenstedt records three times thus
far, I keep thinking maybe I just missed him. I've checked Visbek records also
as many cousins were baptized there without having any luck thus far.

Any ideas of what church records to check next?

Linda Boorom
Cincinnati, OH

Linda,
I had forgotten that you were linked to Bernard and Sophia. I just haven't had time to check our records. I think we're getting closer all of the time. Thanks everyone for your help.

Kathy

Thank you. If I recall, that's a film we reviewed, too. I appreciate the information.

I have a Hellmann in my family tree. Maria Adeheit Hellmann born 1826 in
Hannover, Germany married Johann Heinrich Heile who was born 3/3/1818 in
Merzen, Hannover. They came to the U.S. around 1850. They also lived in
Covington, KY. I don't know anything more about the Hellmann family. Does
anyone have her in their family records?

Debi Snow

Debi,
Your information is very fascinating to me. I'll have to check to see if the records for Merzen and Hannover are on LDS films. I know the Hellmann I'm investigating came to the U.S. in 1849 (per one Census Record). We may have a connection. I'll get back to you.

Kathy

My Grandmother often talked about the Hellman Lumber company. I seems she knew them quite well. Though the I believe the company is still in business it was located at 19'th E Russell St. Cov., Ky during thr 40's & 50's.
The yellow pages indicate it is now located at 1222 Main St Cov.,Ky_ Hope this Helps.

Thanks you. It is my understanding that that particular branch is not in "my" direct line. I know my ex-husband even stopeed by and talked to them about it several years ago.

Kathy

Debi,
I think we've corresponded before. Aren't you the one who is related to the woman who married "Ves" Hellmann? Perhaps I'm confused. I think I had a Heile listed as a Godparent on some Hellmann research I was doing today. I've got to organized all of my stuff. I got a lot of information at the library today and I have to start sorting it out. Please email me.

Kathy, I haven't corresponded with you before. As far as I know I am not
related to someone who married "Ves" Hellmann. I have some Baptismal
records for some of my relatives....I think I better look at them again to
check the godparents...good idea.

Debi Snow

I must have had you mixed up with someone else. In searching through my things, that person was researching Heicken -- not Heile. I have found Heile listed as the Godfather of Matilda Hellmann. Ann Bergelt got into this conversation. Apparently Heile was a business partner with the Hellmann I am researching.
