During the current pandemic, are the archives open to the public? If no, are staff members on-site?
Are there any plans to digitized the Oldenburg/Westerstede archives and make them available for online access?
Sincerely,
Jim

Hello Jim,
the "Landesarchiv Oldenburg" opened 15th March im limited form. They can be
reached via Oldenburg@nla.niedersachsen.de
https://nla.niedersachsen.de/startseite/landesarchiv/abteilung_oldenburg/abt
eilung-oldenburg-197399.html
Stadtarchiv Westerstede can be reached at info@stadtarchiv-westerstede.de
https://www.westerstede.de/leben-in-westerstede/einrichtungen/stadtarchiv-we
sterstede/
compared to the Landesarchiv Oldenburg, the Stadtarchiv Westerstede is far
smaller, and most historic data concerning Westerstede is in the
Landesarchiv Oldenburg, if you are not looking for newer photos or like.
Digital sources for Oldenburg can especially be found at
A database for emigration here: http://www.auswanderer-oldenburg.de/

Hi Dirk:
Thanks for the info. My hope was that the church books for Oldenburg/Westerstede were available online to view and access. Is there at least a complete index of names/places of the church books available for Oldenburg/Westerstede? Thanks.
Jim

Good morning -
I spent several years - 2011-2016 - researching every possible
source - many Interesting findings not all necessary in Oldenburg although
referring to Oldenburg families - as they departed from different
locations and that's where the paperwork went -
Also found out there was a desire to "convert" old archives
into a database that can be accessed online - the issue with this is lack of
funds so this transition of archives is mostly done by volunteers and not
all archives have been "converted" -
My research was "multi-source" - online, via fax, via regular
mail, and via friends in Hannover who took time to help -
Hope this provides some guidance as to how to move forward - it
is a slow process - good luck - martha steinkamp
