I think you can forget the travel by train from Osnabrueck to Le Havre at that time. In 1854 there was no railway at Osnabrueck. The first rail reached Osnabrueck on 21.11.1855 from the east (Loehne-Hannover), then on 26.6.1856 from the west (Rheine-Emden). But the direct line to Koeln was not completed before 1.9.1871.
