Dear Mrs. Hillmer,
Engel is Angela
For the first names I could not find a rule. There are even brothers who got the same first names in the same order, but they used just one as an everydayname. Before the introduction of civil registration on Oct. 1st 1874/Jan 1st 1875 it is very hard to find out. Sometimes a confirmation register (in evangelical lutheran communities church confirmatioin at 14 years) helps.

Hello:
I was wondering if someone could explain the German given naming
conventions? Is there some reason they use the same names in each
child's name,but in a different sequence?
Johann Heinrich Wilhelm
Heinrich Wilhelm
Wilhelm Heinrich Christoph
Heinrich Christoph Wilhelm
Which name did the child actually use on a daily basis?
Also, what would be the American version of ENGEL?
Thank you ..
