Hi List,

In 1853, Adelaide Albers born Adelaide Meyer in 1792 came to America with two sons from Sulingen, Hanover, Germany.

Sons were: # 1. Johann Friederich Ernst Albers born about 1814 and his wife Sophie Marie Rupkens born in Varrel, Germany on 8 Nov. 1819 and four children.

Son # 2:Henry Albers born 1 Nov 1831.

Son # 3: Christian Albers remained in Germany.

Does anyone has any information on any of these people?

Thanks, Gail Schrader

Hi Gail Schrader,

There is one Sulingen, Hannover but three Varrel. One of this Varrel is nearby Sulingen, so one might take this first. You find ALBERS in every Varrel and an untypical increased amout of ALBERS in Sulingen. There are 27 entries for Albers in 1998 simply in Sulingen and three for Varrel nearby Sulingen. In your case the needle in the haystick seems not the right place, but the right persons among the probably thousand of Albers-entries in the parish-books of Sulingen. Nevertheless the parishbook will be the best source, but it will be also no error to ask some of the living ALBERS of Sulingen, if they know of work already done to get these Albers into a genealogical order. With MEYER complexity increases even, as there are about double as much as ALBERS. At last "RUPKENS": nothing in this writing for the whole country in 1998. One should consider other writings as perhaps RÜBKE, which is also not given anymore in Sulingen and Varrel b. Sul., but a given name in the northern parts of Germany, for example in Walsrode.

There is literature for Sulingen in the Library of the Verein für Familienkunde Niedersachsen in Hannover:
Signature Ca 0423: MEYER, Ludwig: Fünf Einwohnerverzeichnisse des Fleckens Sulingen aus den Jahren 1677 - 1787, Hannover 1980 - 90S. Namensregister. and for general history of Sulingen Ca 0608 a,b,c: PLENGE, Erich (Hrsg.) Chronik von Stadt und Land Sulingen, 3 ände, ,1979,1982 und 1985, (each about 250 pages)
The first title gives five different directories of inhabitants of Sulingen for years beteewn 1677 and 1787, which comes from the other side of time already very close to your ALBERS.

So good luck and all the best

Hans Peter Albers, Bienenbüttel
