Ahlers

I too am interested in the Ahlers name. I have tracked my family to Wittmund in 18220s and Leer about 1800. Prior to that, it appears they came from Oldenberg.

As I interpret these entries, Ferdinand was born in Oldenburg, moved to Leer and married Lena. But I know little about the family in Oldenburg except that Ferdinand's father was named Juergen Diederich Ahlers.

Can anyone help? Is, or was, there a Detesdorf in Oldenburg Duchy? Any advice about where I should be looking?

Thanks

Stan Ahlers

Hi Stan,

You will find a Dedesdorf on the East side of the Weser River. At one time
it belonged to Oldenburg.

See:
http://dedesdorf.de.vu/

If you click on "Dedesdorf" a page will open. In the left hand column you
will find "Geschichte" (history.) If you need help translating, open a 2nd
window and open one of the online translation pages.

In German d's & t's are interchangeable.

Hello,
I do believe that there were Ahlers in the Dedesdorf, Oldenburg, area, one of the many families of that name.
