Address of where to write, please

Will someone please send me the address of the Archives in Hanover Germany and tell me if it costs any money to ask for a lookup for my ancestor. I am trying to find his parents names. (I can only read English). Thank you. Sarah srose@rosenet.net

Sarah,

Hannover was a Kingdom of fairly large proportions within the German Reich. See:

http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/ger1871.htm#hannover

Today it is part of the state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen). So the state archives
are under that administration.

Most of the material we need however is located in the church archives which are
listed under their particular religion in older territorial divisions.

Bottom line here is that asking for archives in Hannover may not be of much help.

http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/NSAC/nsac.html

will help you out though under archives and libraries. You can see there are many of
them and you really should have a clue as to where you would like to look.
