I would like to tell you how upset I am by Adalbert Goertz, one of
your subscribers. His comment, "The trigger-happy Bush-Sharon
conspiracy is a disgrace to Christianity." at the end of his message
does not belong on a genealogy website. He should keep his politics to
himself. Thank you Bonnie Clark
You should voice your opinion directly to him. Just as an aside there
are millions of people around the world who would agree with the
sentiment but simply keep it to themselves. He's had that sig for a
long time and short of throwing him off the list it's his right to
have a signature line.
Bonnie is right , This is NOT a site for silly (and to some, offensive )
political slogans.I joined to do genealogy work in East Prussia. You say
that many people agree with Adelbert's views Fred. Most people do NOT. And I
also think you are wrong in not meeting your responsibilities as host of a
non-political site by expelling Adelbert if he refuses to cease his childish
nonsense. At what point would you step in and take action? When someone
places neo-fascist propaganda? When someone tells us who to vote for (
indeed the Israeli elections are coming up shortly)? Or when Osama Bin Laden
joins the site? Come on Fred, you have responsibilities and you can't just
turn your back on them when it suits you and you personally happen to agree
with a certain stupid remark.

Hello Fred,
Adalbert is right with his tag line. Many lives are
at
stake. W is not very bright, and Thomas Friedmann at
the New York Times said that he does not get the big
scene in the Middle East. Adalbert helps many folks.
I was against the Vietnam War and lived five years in
Sweden and Canada. The European leaders are against W
and his foolish policies. Not all Americans are so
un-
witting as those who are whining about Adalbert.
There
would not be a rush to war if Iraq did not have oil.

You see Fred----this is what it leads to. Next we'll have people saying that
terrorists in Iraq can fly a plane into a building somewhere. And all
because pompous and silly Adelbert is allowed to display inflamatory
material.
We do live in a free society without thought police.
Mr. Goertz' messages are always about East and West
Prussian genealogy--right on topic. He has much to
contribute to this list. I do not wish to see him
banned from the list. If you don't like his signature
line, don't read his messages. No one is inciting
terrorists or subversive political movements here.
let's be more reasonable and level headed, and respect
people's rights to have differing views on any
subject.

I think that Adalbert is right. He lived through WWII
in Germany. One sees what that led to with not enough
folks speaking out against war. Those who are
critical
of Adalbert are witless robots. Those who flew into
buildings in New York and Washington did not come from
Iraq. One should ask why they hated Americans so much
to do such an evil deed. The ones who are bent out of
shape about Adalbert's tag line are silly. All that
would come from this foolish war is more death,
hunger,
and pain for Iraqis.

No one is inciting
terrorists or subversive political movements here.
let's be more reasonable and level headed, and respect
people's rights to have differing views on any
subject.
I made an unforgivable error in sending what was a private message to
Bonnie to the list instead. It happens.
I did mean to start another discussion on Adalberts signature as
we've had them here in the past and the consensus was to not read it
or him and to use the delete botton as needed. Personally I do not
think censorship is the cure for things we do not wish to read.
All of us should remember that there are people on this list who have
experienced the human evil of war very personally. Neither Britain or
the USA has ever had it's borders invaded and it's citizenship mauled
by an outside enemy. The others all have. Anyone who has seen the
results of state terrorism against an occupied people can also
empathize with what the Palestinians are going through. I don't agree
with Adalbert that Bush is the evil partner of Sharon and his ilk but
rather that American foreign policy in general has allowed the
killing to go on and on and on. It is why we are on the hit list of
so many people. We simply don't come across as fair and evenhanded.
All we have to think about is Germany after WWI. The Germans too
thought they had been handed an uneven share of guilt fo the war.
Historians have since agreed that everyone and no one was at fault
but the result of the injustice of Versailles was Hitler. Europeans
know a little about these things in history. An unjust war has no
ending. It only starts new ones.
So much for today's history lesson. But let's not go on and on about
this and just do genealogy. OK?
