A question about Hildesheim

Dear List,

Does the following paragraph indicate that the areas of Salzgitter, Piene and Braunsweig were once part of Hildesheim?

Thanks,

Dear Barbie,

the paragraph below means that in 1823 Hildesheim became the capital of a governmental district (Regierungsbezirk). Peine and Salzgitter were part of it. Braunschweig not. In 1974 Peine became part of the governmental district Braunschweig. In 1978 the governmental district Hildesheim was dissolved.

In 2005 all governmental ditricts in Lower Saxony were dissolved. All tasks, which were done by the governmental districts before, moved (up) to the state of Lower Saxony or (down) to the counties.

I hope, this helps a little bit.

Kindly regards from Langenhagen, Germany,

Bjrn

Dear Bjrn,

Very helpful. Thank you.

If I were born circa 1825 migrated circa 1840-1860 to America...

If....

Barbecke, Gro Lafferde, or Sohlde my actual birthplace...

Would it also be logical to say I was from Hildesheim?

Barbie-Lew

Hi Barbie -Lew

as Björn Sassenberg wrote Hildesheim is and was a town and at the same time the capital of the governmental distikt (Regierungsbezirk) Hildesheim.
In 1840 Barbecke, Groß Lafferde and Söhlde were small villages about 25 - 35 km east of the town of Hildesheim and within the governmental distikt of Hildesheim.
Under "I was from Hildesheim" I would understand I was born in the town of Hildesheim and not in Barbecke near Hildesheim.

Hello Barbie,

the "Hochstift Hildesheim" became 1813 part of the Kingdom of Hannover, and this way also Gross Lafferde and Soehlde. At that time they belonged to the Landdrostei later Regierungsbezirk Hildesheim and to the Lutheran church of Hannover (Ev.-Luth. Landeskirche Hannovers).
But Barbecke always belongs to the Herzogtum (duchy) Braunschweig. It was never part of Hildesheim and belongs to the Ev.-Luth. Landeskirche Braunschweig.

Kindly regards and best wishes
