We contacted the Hannover Catholic Diocese as we found that it seemed at the time the departure registration was in Hannover even if the family lived elsewhere -
From Hannover we were directed to Neuenkirchen and on to Oldemburg-Cloppenburg where we found records -
Our Steinkamp family also settled in Cincinnati, Ohio (still live there) where the historical society was extremely helpful and also directed us to the CENSUS site - a free site with info based on dates- where we found the arrival information, etc. –
a word of caution - when you go to the CENSUS site somehow you are redirected to other ancestry sites for a fee - disregard this – stay on the Census site –
