I have been encouraged to ask in English rather than trying Yahoo's German translation.
So here goes...
I have traced my family back to these details:
my great-great-grandparents:
Johann Heinrich Post b. 24 NOV 1824 d. 12 July 1881
Sophia Marie
Haseman b. 17 DEC 1837 d. 15 FEB 1915
I
was able to trace them to their US entry in JUN 1881, via the ship
Leipzig out of Bremen. They arrived here with their 3 sons, were
exposed to smallpox en route, Johann died within a month and was buried
on the Haseman family homestead in Minnesota.
Someone, a descendant
of his that I don't know, offers information that they were married in
Sulingen, Germany 1 OCT 1865. I was sent photos of a church and a house they
may have lived in. (I'm trying to find out from them what the
addresses are for the two buildings). I'm assuming this info was
obtained from a marriage record from the church there, though I have
seen no evidence of a document that proves this. If there is
a document, I would like to get a copy of it. The Haseman descendants
of Sophia have been very successful in the research of her family, and
I am attempting to find as much as possible about the Post side of the
family.
his parents: (info also from the assumed church marriage document?)
Johann Carl Post and Catherine Margarethe Topelmann, Blattern, Germany
I do not know if he had siblings or other relatives that stayed in Germany.
Is
this enough info to find out more about my family lineage in Germany?
I'm not really educated about how this information was documented in Germany or the best approach to finding these details. Anything at all will be very helpful. I also wonder about the details
of their lives at the time: the political climate, what made them want
to leave Germany, what did they do for work before they came here to be farmers, etc.
Thank you for your help!
