Does anyone know if any of the 1852 to 1861 census records have been filmed by the LDS? If so, how are they arranged? I know the exact villages my family would have been living in or near at this time. How would you go about locating the film(s) that they are on? I tried searching under Hanover-census, but it was what was listed there was really confusing. No clear cut census schedules by year as in the U.S.?
Richard:
You can go to Germany, Prussia, Hannover, Census or put in the name of the
Kreis or the name of the court record town. I put in Stolzenau and found
records for Rehburg for the census.
They are microfilmed but am not sure if all records are microfilmed but
there is 60 entries for Hanover Census.

The LDS has indeed filmed a number of census records at the
State Archive Hannover. Although the census entries in the LDS
catalogue are a bit inaccurate for the census records (there are
some "Ämter" listed, which never existed) you should be able to
find the districts, parishes and villages which were filmed.
I appreciate all the filming the LDS does after it helps genealogists
all over the world to access the records and after it saves the
contents of the records in cases of catastrophies. So please do not
take the remark above as a harsh critisism.
Most of the 1852-61 census records of the Kingdom of Hannover
were not yet filmed by the LDS, though. At the Hannover state
Archive there are a relatively low number of census records which
were not filmed yet. But the records are spread over four state
archives and a number of small archives (town archives,
district/Kreis archives) and in all these archives there has been not
LDS census filming yet. So if you do not find the districts, town,
village or parish you are looking for in the LDS catalogue this does
not mean automatically that the records do not exist.
As posted during the past days and weeks, it is our aim to offer
access to all these census records. But the much more important
(and challenging) objective is to get name indexes and to be able
to search for persons and family names in certain towns, parishes
or districts.
