I think it is not possible to assist your search, when you
don`t know the name (spelling),
don`t know the birthplace,
don`t know the birthdate and
not even know the region.
If he has been a circus artist - it might work, there is a famous
Circus-Family in Germany called RENZ and I know someone who researches this
family - but all the other spellingvariations (as Renze, Rentze, Ranz,
Renzel, Rentz, Rentzsch - and more) you can find spread all over Germany
including the former German regions like East- or Westprussia.
If you`re really interested in finding the roots of your family- you have to
do your homework in South Afrika.
Find out the real German spelling, find out his exact birthdate (at least
birth year) and find out his place of birth, then we can tell you how to
start research in Germany.
Search for his Immigration-papers, you tell about a death notice - do you
have a real death certificate ? Where did he marry in Germany or South
Afrika ? Name of his wife ? Do you have the marriage certificate ? in which
year did he immigrate ? How ? If via ship, from which harbour did the ship
start. Which informations tells the Voters Roll ?
